Updates, where you go? #Dragoncon 2009 baby!

Ok, disappeared for 3 months, as usual. I was finishing out a marketing contract which was taking close to 70 hours a week to deal, no time to update. With the holidays coming up, I am here to stay! Updates to start...later today! :)

The big thing is Dragoncon 2009, I went, I saw, I developed new fetishes. Want to hear my review?




So where to begin? I think with some pros and cons.

Pros

1. Steampunk revolution everywhere!
2. Tons of people doing Thriller dance and breaking the record
3. The long beard Star Trek panel guy!

All the music...Voltaire (and being beat up with a stuffed animal by the master goth), Abney Park, Marc Gunn (Kilted for her Pleasure), Bedlam Bards, MC Chris... If you watch the MC Chris Nrrrrdgirl Video and find it describes you, or you look like the girls in the video, please contact me ASAP so I can begin worshipping you!

Who you gonna call? GHOSTBUSTERS! ... I own bustingmakesmefeelgood.com but havn't done NOTHING with it. BLEH! So many ghostbusters, I think like 20-30 in the parade, including female Ghostbusters and some GORGEOUS decked at Janine Melnitz cosplay!

My "Bam said the Lady" campaign for Toys for Tots was HUGE! I expected to get 20 or so pictures, call it a day...I ended up carrying in the entire con, getting videos of people holding a Cheeta saying "Bam said the Lady". More on this when I figure out how to edit videos! :)

5 Hour energy shots, Vitamin Gummies, the Farmers Market sauteed honey chicken in Peachtree Center food court (this was my diet for 5 days).

Cons of the Con -

1. Steampunk cosplayers were 'snoody', cause they are in the 'trendy genre'.
2. 9/10 Dragoncon staff telling you to get into line, only 1/10 knowing WHERE the line is for you to get into!
3. Rocky Horror Picture show... Some drunk guy was going row to row, SCREAMING in peoples faces what he thought was the FUNNIEST comebacks...he personally cleared out at least 300 people
4. Waiting in like 3 hours to go to Rocky Horror!!!
5. Crazy zombie girl that cut in line for Claudia Christian while I was trying to find out WHERE the line was...she started screaming at me "No cuts, back of the line" which insued a MOB mentality of everyone screaming at me...she managed to get a seat a whole row infront of me, but is going to get b*tched by my Karma :)
6. Froggy Photos not supporting charities like Toys for Tots...then making us sit around for 5 hours to get a picture that Natalie basically had to crop/print herself
7. Sheraton Hotel 2 blocks away...they claimed there would be shuttles, I saw no shuttles! ... Only 5 minute walk, but when you have -5 minutes between panels plus 2 hours lines, every second counts.
8. Star Trek karaoke, with everyone singing Elton John songs AS William Shatner... I never wanna hear Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds AGAIN! ... Ok, I never wanted to hear it before this either, but now I don't want to hear it on whole new levels!
9. Bus route to my hotel ran from 6am-9pm, all the good music happend at midnight or later!

10. All the guys at CON wearing a Charlie Brown yellow shirt with zig zag stripe and not a SINGLE ONE was bald. Come on... That was beyond lazy!

Things I learned for Next Year -

1. Stay in a local hotel so you can change clothes and go dancing, instead of carrying survival pack with you non stop.
2. Wear a sign that tells girls to kiss you...THEY WILL!

Probaly more, I will update/repost this once I clear the rest of my head out! Was definately a great vacation...

Not a toy update, more a 'life' update. Life has been BUSY! I went full force into my toy business for about...3 weeks, then I got a second job. It pays less then the first but it's a family thing... Now that things are...less in need of me, i'm going to be focusing back on the toys. This means...

Q&A cause I'm bored!

I've had alot of new people added lately to my Myspace, eBay blog, Blogspot, and whatever other RSS feeds I got and they keep asking questions...they want to know me! I've been on computers sense I was 4, I've been on a nationwide network of computers before internet existed...maybe the whole facination is gone with getting to know 'virtual people'. Granted, I have met some great people with the computer, but i've never blog stalked... ... oh wait...there was that one time... ... Nevermind *laugh*.

Q: Why start a toy store?
A: Growing up, I had a slinky and I was proud to have it! ... I'm living my second freakin childhood here! I have multiple rooms with wall to wall toys. I have wind up pacman toys...I got to play with a fully assembled Voltron that was made the same year I was born! ... I got a Chuck Norris action figure. What nerd wouldn't want this life?

Q: Did you always want to run a business?
A: I've always wanted to do something 'eventful'...PCD = Productive Compulsive Disorder... If I got more then X amount of hours without doing something to better myself...be it ebay, exercise, read a book, meditate...SOMETHING. I go alittle stir crazy.

Q: Is this your fulltime business?
A: Sort of. It is my primary source of income, but I only spend 10-15 hours a week on it. My secondary job takes most of my time... ... but within the next few months that job will either be paying better or my hours severely cut so I can get back into my toys!

Q: How/why did you get into toys?
A: I use to hit the flea market ALOT setting up. Started with around the house items, then straight martial art equipment, then KEYCHAINS (until the keychain rack fell on my head and caused bleeding)... I hit an auction and picked up a mix of items. Mostly old books, some comics, then a handful of old McFarlane toys. The latter sold out instantly... Then I saw some kids walking around with some cards, I asked about them and what they paid... It was Magic the Gathering... I had done some importing/sales of pokemon in the day, but never knew how many kids were into CCG. ... Started importing to sell myself...plus eye balling any big toy scores...

I got a job working for free (I got store credit) at the late, not so create, comic book store at the Salisbury Mall. I used this as a learning experience on what products sell and how to understand the desire for certain items such as toys/statues/comics. I took the products I earned working there and started my toy selling online. This was back in like...2003ish.

Q: What makes you happy?
A: Random people I don't know on the street asking me how i'm doing... Gives me hope that I'm not the only nice guy out there!!!

Q: What makes you sad?
A: People who spend more time complaining about how horrible their life is without actually doing anything to fix it!

Q: What is your favorite toy?
A: ... I dunno. I don't personally collect alot of items, I mostly just sell... Not really toys but some of my 'prized possessions that have no price...well, no LOW price' would be... My Yoda bean bag pillow, my M&M coffee mug, my Scrooge McDuck christmas ornament... That is all I can think of right now.

A: Get a job hippie!

Hi there! As usual, I am trying to advance the quality of the items I sell and need some help. I came up with a quick measuring tool for my miniatures and realised that it could be useful for a variety of toys!!! I have a quick job for someone...if you have avid photoshop and math skills, and would like some FREE TOYS, click for more.

Ok. Basically I want to combine these sorta...

I don't want SKELETONS thou. I want TOYS! I think if you use the full width of the paper you could put 5 rulers. First a 1" army man, a 2" Lego figure, next a classic 4.5" GI Joe, next 7" Marvel Legends, finally a 9" Star Trek maybe? If only room for 4, cut out army man. Sizes are rough estimate but you know what I mean. My logo/font on top and look "pretty". I don't want too many colors to distract from what i'm taking pictures of. That image I have there is actually like 6" just cause I wanted to scaled to view. Simple issue of using a ruler in your photo editor and draw a line across for each inch from 1-8".

A little history on the maker..
Milton Bradley Company. Milton Bradley, a lithographer, started business in 1860 in Springfield, MA. So, own a piece of vintage board game history, and watch your friends swing by their wits. I loved this game as a child, and it is one of the great ‘edutainment’ style games that make learning fun by adding an element of danger for not having good vocabulary. It’s a fun all ages game, that is easy to set up, a great way to teach children better vocabulary while also appealing to their imagination and encouraging them to be intuitive as well. The classics never die, and this day and age with the advent of television and internet, it’s always good to take a technological break, and get back to the classic, sit down, person to person, eye to eye board game where you can sit there and watch them sweat, live and in person. Watch the fear go up with every turn of the dial. Well, I got to go, I think I have this one figured out.. T_E E_D

I was looking for someone to blog for me. My primary site is a "Toy Review" site. I need articles that focus on 2-4 product/product lines at a time, 600-800 word average per articles with picture links. You can see the site at http://nrfbtoystore.blogspot.com . I am working on the template in the next few weeks to make things 'prettier', but I am so busy with my work to keep up content on the site. I basically need someone to...check google trends for hot keywords related with TOYS, then research the toy, cut/paste a short description from manufacture, then type up 1 paragraph of a 'personal opinion' of the toy, along with another paragraph of 'why you/your kids would want this toy'. ... Also my ebay store is www.nrfbtoystore.com, which any products I have listed on there would also be great to write articles about.

I'd probably buy 3-10 articles at a time, then just save/list them every few days. If the articles get a decent response, that means my revenue will increase, which means I'll be willing to spend more money on content...circle of economics :). I am checking out a few different people, so if you have interest, give me a quote on a 'per article' basis, what kind of discount you'd offer if I purchased bulk (say 6 articles at a time), and what kind of turn around time you would offer. New World Of Warcraft Series 5 figures up with pics...you know you wanna look ;)

New figure set! Some out, some being preordered! Being released by DC Direct, I'd say this is one of the nicest detailing jobs they have managed so far!





What...I gave you the thumbnails and links. You want more? Ok, sense you were nice enough to click... They are actually doing a figure set where you can grab the Ghoul, Hunter and Hero all in one!

You could try to find things on ebay, but I'd recommend going straight through a supplier like Entertainment Earth to assure mint quality. Some of the old Warcraft III items I bought from Gamestop I resold for 4X original MSRP, I think these figures will go up fast...probaly by next expension.

Transformers 2 the Movie causes toy Economy to rise!

I'm sorry, but while the new 'recetion' has hit, my toy sales have tripled. Why? The warm fuzzy me likes to think, that no matter how hard things are, people want to make sure their kids have something cool to play with... ... but I know I'm probaly selling to all those bail out CEO's that always wished they could have a complete 1981 diecast Voltron NRFB... ... But whatever you finances, this is a money maker here. Lots of new transformer toys BUT the movie isn't out for almost 4 months. Buy now, sell later!!! Trust me!

Watchmen toys and statues have been released!!!

I have been asking people lately "What toy did you play with growing up?"...and I had the hardest time thinking an answer for myself. I had alot of toys, but mostly simple things... SO! #5 - Slinky - It's Slinky, it's slinky! Fun for a girl AND a boy...

I had the classic metal. I use to jump rope with that. THat's how REAL MEN jumproped, hehehe! I hated stairs...fell down them alot. But I would love having that slinky jump step per step...but if that slinky ever STOPPED mid way, it would ruin your WHOLE DAY!

4 - Construx - The ultimate is plastic bars that hook into little blue things...

Am I the only one that played with these? It was the 'sophisticated' legos, cause, legos were for little kids!!! :) Ok, I had both. This was great because it was alittle bigger, mostly grey which added a 'robitic' feel to EVERYTHING. I use to make replica swords, primarily Thundercats. It heald up pretty good when used as a weapon too!

They had a ton of expansions but I just built my own ideas.



#3 - Weird purple grappling hook looking thing... It looked put a purple 'ninja star' with a rope on it, i think red rope. It looked... GI Joe-ish. I dunno what it went with, probaly got at a ard sale. It had a good 6 foot rope on it. Anything I could throw that on and grapple, I did. It was my secondary weapon when using a Construx sword!

#2 - Voltron - AND I"LL FORM THE HEAD!



I so loved this toy... I NEVER had one thou...but my friend did, and it was so cool. They all connected into a full size Voltron, then the sword and shield...and the head launched at a VERY high velocity that you could use to take out your enemies with! ... I once found an original 1981 die cast new in box at yard sale for $15, resold for $100 by next day... I was sad but, that's good profit!

1 - Pacman handheld Arcade Cabinet


I use to straight hussle guys at the laundry met at pacman, used the money to pay for the wash! My mother got tired of me bugging for quarters so she bought me a C64 with a pacman cartridge, and that started my computer addiction at age 5.

This is a picture of the one I had, but they had a ton of different variants! This one I've seen around $100 even on ebay. One day i'll find one cheap...and play it... ... then sell it!
